Abstract
The Australian Broadband Advisory Council (ABAC) released a position paper on the future of Creative Industry in March 2022, as part of series of papers formed by various industry expert working groups. The purpose of the Creative Industry position paper was to provide advice and recommendations to the Minister for Communications on ways to maximise the benefits of the National Broadband Network (NBN) and other high-speed networks in key sectors of the economy. This article outlines the key findings of the position paper and discusses briefly other key global and local activities since the publication of the position paper that are of note, such as Covid-19, the 2023 writers’ strike and the concerns around AI technology deployment in the Creative Industry.

Zareh Nalbandian, Co-Founder of Animal Logic and CEO, Animal Logic Entertainment
Zareh Nalbandian, Animal Logic’s Co-Founder and CEO, has been developing and producing large-scale screen projects for almost 30 years and has collaborated with iconic directors and artists on some of the most successful feature films of our time.
Since leading Animal Logic’s expansion into feature film visual effects in 1996 and feature animation in 2006, Zareh has guided one of the most respected artistic and technical cultures in the industry. Zareh was Executive Producer on The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Movie 2, Academy Award winning Happy Feet, The LEGO Batman Movie, The LEGO Ninjago Movie and Producer on Peter Rabbit, Peter Rabbit 2 and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole.
Zareh is the Deputy Chair of Ausfilm, a board member of the Sydney Film Festival and a member of the Producer’s Guild of America and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
